CELEBRATING THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE TAI CHI ASSOCIATION OF AUSTRALIA

The TCAA’s management committee (“MC”) commenced preparations on a celebratory event to commemorate 25 years since the TCAA was established. Technically, TCAA was established in 1999, having been founded by Dr Paul Lam who is also the former President.

With the assistance of a generous sponsorship from a previous TCAA supporter, the event organising subcommittee decided to mark the special occasion by offering members a fully, catered, all day event along with commemorative TCAA branded tote bag containing branded t- shirts and magazines.

The event was designed to offer members an inspiring series of top-level presentations and demonstrations by individually selected masters, focusing on quality and showcasing a diversity of styles.

It was also decided that the tai chi education focus should cover three different training aspects
– Forms, Push Hands and Combat, while also showcasing Three Emperor Cannon Fist (San Huang Pao Chui Quan) by Sifu Harvey Lee, a renowned exponent of this particular combat style.

Management Committee members formed a small organising team, comprising the following along with their allocated roles and spheres of responsibility:
• Sifu Cyril Loa, TCAA President– providing creative input into the clothing and magazine design; attracting widespread event promotion and participation through his tai chi school and networks, with special interest in promoting the health, preventative and therapeutic benefits of tai chi practice; participating in the masters’ demonstration
• Sifu James Gao, Vice President, overall organising team lead – project management, event program lead, responsible for selecting and inviting individual masters presentations and demonstrations, organising t-shirt and magazine printing; presenting Tai Chi push hands seminar along with Yang Style old frame 188 form in the masters’ demonstration
• Sam Ruan – Committee and organising member, responsible for organising venue hire; participated in the masters’ demonstrations
• Elisa Palazzo, Committee and organising team member – magazine preparation, layout look and feel, editing lead, artwork creation for t-shirts and bags.
• Jon Zhou, TCAA Secretary – video and communications lead
• Sam Miller, TCAA Treasurer – catering arrangements, obtaining sponsorship from ACE Recycling Group, Principal event sponsor

The fully catered all-day event was held at Fitzroy Hall, Burwood on 22 February with over 80 attendees, the hall being at full capacity.

Positive feedback was received from attendees on the day in terms of format, participation, education and catering, so overall the MC judged the event to have been a success.
